After lots of research, debates and struggles in my head, I finally decided which Kayak I was going to build first. The High Capacity Great Auk, designed by Nick Shade.
As previously mentioned, I am an avid kayak fisher. We have been doing more out of the kayaks than the bass boat we bought new in 2011.
The craze for most fishing kayaks right now is sit on top. We have two from Jackson Kayak and pops has a Jackson and a Hobie. I enjoy the sit on tops, but I am wanting to build a sit inside kayak for my new project.
Finding a design was a little more of a challenge than I had first thought. There just isn't enough people building and fishing out of home built kayaks. So what I have done is opted on a tour type open water craft that is wider for initial stability and I will modify it from the original plans to fit my kayak fishing needs as I go.
I found the plans for my new kayak at http://www.guillemot-kayaks.com/guillemot
Guillemot is the name of Nick Schade kayak company. Although I found several kayak plans available that I think could work, one of the deciding factors was this kayak will hold over 600 pounds. Knowing that a kayak camping trip will be in order, I opted for this one to make as the new fishing kayak.
Here is some links to the specs on the yak I'm building.

Although, I don't think my first yak will be museum quality, I think it will be a fun project and I will end up with a usable fishing kayak.
It will be an adventure.
As alway, enjoy the outdoors.
Team Frazier.
